This independent offering is a good example of what can be read outside of the "Big Two," namely Marvel and DC, as the subject matter would be almost non-existent in the standard super-hero world: comic book collecting. Wimbledon Green is the world's greatest comic book collector, but it's the mystery and intrigue behind the character that continues to be the center of attention amongst his rival collectors.

Seth, whose real name is Gregory Gallant, handles both writing and artistic chores in this hardcover compilation of a series of comic strips that detail the origin, rise, fall and disappearance of Wimbledon Green. With a cartoon style that is beautifully accented by a duo-tone color scheme, Seth creates quite a stable of characters that are all unique. His attention to detail is a pleasant surprise, even when he creates fake golden- and silver-age comics that are selections from the famed collector's library.

The writing itself is the best part of this book as Seth weaves a tale of shady dealings, double-crossings and larger-than-life characters; all wrapped around the world of comic collecting. Consider it one of those books that you'll find difficult to put down, and I'd recommend it to anyone who's looking for an alternative to the usual mainstream fare or for the hardcore collectors out there. With a couple of Eisner nominations under its belt, how can you go wrong?
