After an attack by The Hand, Wolverine briefly considers Yukio's "proposition" until a vision of Mariko causes him to stop. Instead, he decides to help Yukio in dealing with another crime lord, Katsuyori. Unfortunately for Wolverine, Yukio is also secretly working for Lord Shingen, and while his plan is to eliminate his rival, Yukio's plan is to have Wolverine all to herself…

Chris Claremont continues the intrigue in this second issue, and with new players on the board, the story continues to get thicker with suspense. His knowledge of Japanese culture is a true asset here as well, because in reading this issue I didn't feel bogged down by the cultural references. Instead, I found that the details were just enough to keep the story crisp.

Frank Miller continues to draw his heart out, and one look at the scenes with The Hand - a group of trained ninja assassins decked out in red - is all you need for proof. Those fight scenes are extremely well-choreographed, right down to where the killer blows land. The various characters' body language is also another example of how the art here helps out the storytelling.

Incredibly well done, this installment takes the last issue and shakes things up real nice while adding more and more layers… fantastic.
