WORLD WAR HULK: GAMMA CORPS #1 (of 4)

THE LEAN, GREEN SUMMARY

• Years ago, during a classified meeting, a group of men are determining what exactly to do with the Hulk. General Thunderbolt Ross, Major Glenn Talbot, Dr. Bruce Banner and more have different opinions on just how much of a menace the monster really is.
• Present day, and General John Ryker is attending his wife’s funeral, after her succumbing to cancer. This is his first public appearance in months, having been in hiding from S.H.I.E.L.D. Ryker knew his reemergence would bring S.H.I.E.L.D. out to apprehend him, but he has an agenda all his own: to deal with the current Hulk problem. Ryker offers the agent in charge, Charlie, a chance to advance in the ranks with information on how to deal with the Hulk in exchange for Ryker being set free.
• Meanwhile, in a secret A.I.M. base, the man codenamed Griffin is being interrogated. Grif takes his beating, toying with the A.I.M. agents until it’s time to transform into a green-hued griffin himself, slaughtering the agents.
• More agents, wearing black market Crimson Dynamo tech arrive, but so do members of Grif’s team: the Leadaer-like Prodigy, the half-abominable Mess and Mister Gideon (reminiscent of Doc Samson). Dispatching of the Dynamos, they head for their true target: Benny Tibets, also known as Flux, who’s being held captive. Thinking that the team is from S.H.I.E.L.D, Tibets is relieved to be set free, until the final member of the Gamma Corps, the brutish but brooding Grey, disposes of Tibets crushingly, cleaning up loose ends for General Ryker.
• At that moment, General Ryker gives the Corps the news they’ve been waiting for: they’re going to get their shot at the Hulk.

I KNOW THAT LOOK…

Gamma Corps member Griffin sure knows how to pay tribute to those before him, using this classic line that hasn’t been seen in an Incredible Hulk issue for a very long time.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Gamma Corps! Nothing like a little posing during your big introduction — it’ll look great on the kiddies’ lunch boxes.

MONTY PYTHON WOULD BE PROUD

As Benny Tibets is about to find out, if you’re strong enough to squish a man’s head like a grape, then by all means you should do so. The final Corps member, Grey, shows us all it takes is one hand.

BLOOD IS THICKER THAN WATER

The big reveal: Corps member Grey is in fact Brian Talbot, brother of the deceased Major Glenn Talbot. It seems none of the Talbot clan were on the Hulk’s Christmas card list, and now he’s going to pay dearly.
