WORLD WAR HULK: GAMMA CORPS #2 (of 4)
Frank Tieri (W)/Carlos Ferreira (A)

THE LEAN, GREEN SUMMARY

  • Gamma Corps team members Gideon, Prodigy, Grif and Grey are working out strategies on an LMD version of the Hulk when General Ryker interrupts the training session asking where Mess, the fifth member, was. It seems that Mess has gone AWOL, tired of waiting around for a shot at the real Hulk. The team and Ryker catch up to Mess, and Ryker informs the entire team that if anyone jeopardizes the mission, they will be terminated.
  • Mess’ determination and sheer hatred for the gamma-spawned monster triggers memories of why each member has joined this team, conveniently shown in flashbacks…Nichole (Mess) Martin lost her son and various body parts in a horrific accident; Timothy (Prodigy) Wilkerson suffered a stroke while still in the womb; Gideon Wilson lost his son Jim when a blood transfusion from the Hulk failed to halt the progress of the young man’s HIV virus…and they all blame the Hulk for their misfortunes. Even Eliot (Grif) Franklin, who was approached while in prison, was crazy enough to sign up with Ryker’s team.
  • Back to the present day, Ryker manages to open up lines of communication with the Hulk while he’s on board his ship. Requesting a meeting with ol’ Jade Jaws, Ryker is turned down unceremoniously. Not appreciating this and the fact he’s waited long enough, Ryker dispatches a missle that’s speeding straight for the Hulk’s ship…

AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE

Whether you have children or not, the very thought of enduring what Mess goes through here is enough to give anyone a shudder. Unable to save her son from this tragedy, some would think it would have been better if she had perished as well.

COURAGE MAGNIFIED

With a raging Hulk standing above them about to dish out the killing blow, Mrs. Wilkerson defiantly screams at the monster, and it works.

THE JOKER WOULD BE PROUD

No one likes a funny guy in jail, apparently. Especially those that can’t seem to keep their yaps shut. Eliot, as a result, sees firsthand what trouble his mouth brings, and naturally, continues on after having his face pummeled.

WRONG ANSWER

Ryker’s retort to the Hulk’s blow-off should certainly get the green skinned monster’s attention. The million dollar question is who in their right mind would want to get the Hulk’s attention? Then again, is Ryker in his right mind? Probably not…
